Víctor Rodríguez Núñez (Cuba)

Víctor Rodríguez Núñez (Havana, Cuba, 1955) is a poet, essayist, translator, journalist, and professor. He has published eighteen poetry books, almost all of them award-winning and republished. His most recent works include: takeoff (Loewe Foundation Prize, 2016), notebook of the mosc rat (2017), immediately [or the drop of blood at level] (2018), the moon according to masao vicente (2021), and eratica (2023). His books or anthologies have been published in twelve Spanish-speaking countries and translated into German, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Korean, French, Hebrew, English, Italian, Macedonian, Dutch, Portuguese, Serbian, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. He has read his poetry at literary events in over fifty countries, including Romania.

In the 1980s, he was editor and editor-in-chief of the influential Cuban cultural magazine El Caimán Barbudo, where he published numerous texts on poetry and film. A selection of his interviews with Hispanic poets can be found in the book Poetry Is Good for Everything (2008 and 2023). He compiled three anthologies that defined his generation, as well as 20th Century Poetry in Cuba (2011). He has translated poetry both from English into Spanish (Mark Strand, C.D. Wright, John Kinsella) and from Spanish into English (Juan Gelman, Antonio Gamoneda, José Emilio Pacheco).
