MIRCEA TIBERIAN (Romania)

MIRCEA TIBERIAN was born in May 1955 in Cluj, but spent his childhood and adolescence in Sibiu, and in 1975 he moved to Bucharest, where he still lives. In 1980 he graduated from the National University of Music in Bucharest, where he is a professor and coordinator of the Jazz/Popular Music Department. One of the most important jazz musicians in Europe, a pianist who gives countless concerts in Romania and around the world, Mircea Tiberian has signed, as a composer, dozens of award-winning albums, some solo, others in a band. He is also the author of the volumes Notes on Music and Music Notes, Cartea de muzica and Jazz Inside Out.

Mircea Tiberian made his jazz debut at the Sibiu Jazz Festival in 1974 under the baton of maestro Johnny Răducanu. Mircea Tiberian was declared “musician of the year” in 2003, 2007, 2008 and received the Composers’ Union Award for jazz composition in 1990, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2012. Mircea Tiberian has published several books related to music, jazz, composition, collaborated in the creation of interdisciplinary artistic events and was the artistic director of the ArCuB Jazz Festivals.
