Lalo Barrubia (Uruguay)

Lalo BARRUBIA (b. Montevideo, 1967) is a writer, translator, performance artist, and social researcher. 

As a poet, she has published numerous books and participated in festivals and readings around the world. Her more recent poetry collections are: Saker Som Inte Syns / Cosas que no se ven, bilingual edition swedish-spanish (Tranås, CHAP Magnus Grehn Förlag, 2023), 100 KAVD / 100 korta arga vardagsdikter, swedish (Malmö, Tre Tärningar, 2020), 50 (Malmö-Copenhague, Red Press, 2018), La Máquina, (Montevideo, Yaugurú, 2016), Borderline (México DF, Literal, 2013). Some of her poems have been translated into several languages.

She has also published novels and short stories that stand out for their portrayal of a generation that grew up during the authoritarian 1970s in South America. Her short story collection, Ratas, received the 2014 National Literature Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay.

She has a degree in social work and has studied community work and social research. She has worked on projects involving urban development, community participation, and social advocacy through culture.
