David Greenslade (Great Britain)

David GREENSLADE writes in the Welsh language and in English.  He published his first book of poetry in 1992, Burning Down the Dosbarth (Y Lolfa Press) – a collection that expresses outrage at prejudices faced by the minority Welsh language.  Since then his Welsh language books have deepened his commitment to this contemporary Celtic language.   He works in close collaboration with visual artists.  In addition to writing, curating and editing for others, he exhibits his own visual images.  In the 1970s he spent three years studying Zen Buddhism in Japan.  Now retired, he has taught at a number of universities and at community venues, ranging from special needs to prison. He shares his time between Wales and Romania.  In Romania he lives in the village of Horlesti, near Iași, as well as, in Wales, a house located midway between Swansea and Cardiff.  His most recent book is Sponge, The Animal that Gave us Oxygen (Incunabula Media, 2024) – an illustrated study of imaginary sponges.
